Maybe Next Semester (Flashback Poem)

Sandra congratulated me on signing up for classes

I don’t know if this decision was for me or to please the masses

I entered the campus with my arms shaking

To be twenty-two in a room full of eighteen year olds

I can feel the judgement already coming

I pulled up to a parking spot and pondered as I watched all the fresh out of high school kids congregate in front of the main building

One girl looked at me and I projected the judgement in her stare

I pulled away in despair

I did that three more times until I dropped out for the semester

Maybe being a private eye like my uncle is the answer
